Manhattan Camerata IS A distinctive chamber ensemble known for its performances of Transclassical Music, a unique musical style created by its founders Lucía Caruso and Pedro Henriques da Silva.
Since its inception in 2009, the Manhattan Camerata has become one of the world's most versatile, flexible, and stylistically diverse ensembles, equally adept at Tango and Fado, medieval music, rock arrangements, as well as film scores and original contemporary compositions. Performances unconventionally meld the western classical chamber orchestra with world instruments (Portuguese guitar, bandoneón, sitar, darbuka, to name a few) – often presented in new works.
The eclectic nature of Manhattan Camerata is best understood in the founders’ international and cross-cultural approach. Artistic Director Lucía Caruso is a composer and pianist from Argentina, and Music Director Pedro Henriques da Silva is a member of the New York University composition faculty and a multi-instrumentalist from Portugal. It is this cultural communion that gives the ensemble its innovative perspective.
The Manhattan Camerata is a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, therefore all donations are tax-deductible.
